Trobos.lt – bringing the shopping mall online

By working with UAB Vilniaus prekyba, we created a new type of e-commerce system that brought together 15 of Lithuania’s major retail chains on a single platform — from pharmacies to DIY supply stores.

TROBOS is a unique project aiming to replicate a real shopping mall online. Unlike regular eCommerce store, it brings together products from different sellers, lets customers purchase them in a single order, and delivers everything to their homes the same day.

Working with UAB Vilniaus prekyba, we created a new type of e-commerce system that united 15 of Lithuania’s largest retail chains on one platform — from pharmacies to building supply stores. We implemented several different solutions that ultimately came together successfully into the TROBOS ecosystem.

The Task

Typical online marketplaces gather several stores under one virtual roof, making it easier for customers to shop. This is a rapidly growing and innovative concept, but building a new type of system always brings significant challenges — from choosing the right technologies to anticipating how future users will behave within it.

The TROBOS project had a truly ambitious goal: to allow a shopper’s cart to include products from multiple different sellers, have the items collected, handed over to a courier, and delivered straight to the customer’s home on the very same day.

To turn these goals into reality, we set out to develop three separate solutions that needed to “communicate” efficiently with each other, ensuring a smooth experience for end customers, sellers, and couriers alike.

"

Create an online marketplace

A platform that brings together different sellers’ assortments and presents them to customers in a convenient e-shop.

Develop a mobile app for couriers

An application for Android and iOS devices that helps couriers efficiently deliver packages to customers.

Order Management System (OMS)

An internal tool for processing incoming orders, managing accounting, inventory, and other related processes.

Implemented technical solutions

A PWA solution was implemented to ensure smooth user experience and fast platform performance.

The Sylius e-commerce framework was adapted to deliver core e-commerce functionalities.

Using the Symfony framework, an order management system with iOS and Android applications was developed.

Full integrations were carried out with three major retail chains to display their entire assortments: Maxima, Eurovaistinė, Ermitažas.

A separate API was built for integrations with other sellers and their order management.

SSR and caching solutions were implemented for faster platform performance and smoother browsing.

Design and user experience (UX/UI)

The TROBOS system is characterized by a high level of informational complexity. To turn this into a product that is convenient for different audiences — visitors, sellers, and couriers — we had to find an effective solution for its visual representation. The design team’s main task became creating an attractive and consistent look across the different systems, as well as ensuring their smooth interaction.

Designing for three different systems at the same time proved to be a real challenge. However, frequent and direct communication with both our developers and the client’s team allowed us to make effective decisions. By understanding the needs and the project’s objective limitations, we were able to find the optimal path forward.

The Result

1. Trobos.lt online marketplace created

At the launch the system already included integrations with 15 suppliers (Maxima, Eurovaistinė, Ermitažas, Pegasas, and others) and offered an assortment of more than 55,000 different products.

This marketplace became not only a distinctive product for Lithuanian customers but also a unique sales channel for retailers, with strong ambitions for future growth.

2. Order Management System (OMS) implemented

The newly built order management system enabled efficient processing of incoming orders, inventory tracking, accounting, and management of other related processes.

3. Courier mobile apps developed

To ensure smooth order tracking and management, mobile applications for Android and iOS devices were created and are used by couriers.

4. UX/UI design solution created

A planned user flow ensured a seamless experience for both buyers and sellers, while a unified graphic style tied the separate parts of the TROBOS project into a single ecosystem.
